RiverBrink requires a Museum Attendant for the period of May 18 – September 4, 2020. This position is dependent on approval of funding thorough Employment and Social Development Canada Program.
The job entails:
RiverBrink is located in the village of Queenston, situated between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. The Art Museum collection contains over 1,400 works of fine art and a library of 4,000 books and documents. The primary project involves developing strategies to better cultivate audience development and engagement through written work and research. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the delivery of customer service through the administration of reception operations. Tasks include answering phones, greeting and tracking visitors, monitoring gift shop inventory and completing sales, assisting with tracking of the physical plant, monitoring the security of the museum during business hours, and responding to general inquiries both in person and online. Assisting with tours.
To effectively carry out these tasks, the applicant should become familiar with information about the collection, historical background of the museum and its founder, Samuel E. Weir and the history of Queenston and the surrounding Niagara area.
Interested candidates must have completed a minimum of one year of post secondary education in a related field, such as communications, graphic design, art history, fine art, visual cultural, museum studies, or Canadian history and have a passion for art and art history. Past experience as a volunteer or employee in an art gallery/fine art museum, community museum or historic site would be an asset; however, previous work with the public will be considered. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and an intermediate to advanced level of computer proficiency. Candidate should have knowledge of web and social media maintenance. Organizational and interpersonal skills are required, along with a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Knowledge and experience with website writing, arts research and presentation skills are desirable. Retail skills are requested. Some reading and spoken knowledge of French or other language would be an asset.

- working with staff, volunteers and the public in support of daily operations by greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, guiding tour of Queenston Village (including other Museums and National Heritage Sites) and RiverBrink exhibitions.
- completing sales and providing general information on the Museum, its exhibitions and adult/senior programming.
- He/She will assist with ongoing communications.
- In addition, the candidate will photograph events, exhibitions, gift shop items and art works as needed and assist in the development of a virtual tour of exhibitions.
- Other duties include assisting in gift shop sales and inventory tracking, processing membership sales and renewals, tracking attendance, and responding to general inquiries both in person and online.
- The candidate will monitor cameras to assist in security and will be involved in offering guided tours.
