Saturday, April 20th at 10:00am-3:30pm
Create your own pendant in support of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls with Jamie-Lynn Gillingham. It is imperative every one of us learns the powerful message behind the MMIWG Movement.
"On December 8, 2015, the federal government announced the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) as a key government initiative to end the disproportionally high levels of violence against Indigenous women and girls.”
Yet so many are unaware the National Inquiry was even launched and that the final report was released in 2019. Work is now underway to create a national action plan to implement the report’s Calls for Justice. Participating in this meaningful workshop will allow you to learn more about this movement and carry a powerful message with your beautifully created MMIWG Pendant.
Basic beading skills will be taught as you create a striking piece featuring the red hand symbol, which stands for all the missing sisters whose voices have been silenced. A relaxing atmosphere will be enjoyed as you appreciate nature with a lovely cup of Traditional Cedar Tea while savoring a Traditional Indian Cookie. (The history of these refreshments will be discussed).
Jamie-Lynn is a First Nations Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) artisan. Her practice involves traditional skills of beadwork and leatherwork, which she enjoys sharing throughout the community.
*A portion of proceeds will go directly toward supporting Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls
