Missionary and priest, Father Hennepin accompanied French explorer La Salle to the Great Lakes region on his 1678-80 expedition. This is the first image of Niagara Falls by a European and was initially reproduced in Hennepin’s popular 1697 travelogue. The volume in our collection is the first English edition of the book.
